The closer correlation coefficients get to -1.0 or 1.0, the stronger the correlation. Correlation in SPSS Correlation is a statistical technique that shows how strongly two variables are related to each other or the degree of association between the two. For example, if we have the weight and height data of taller and shorter people, with the correlation between them, we can find out how these two variables are related. R-Squared (R² or the coefficient of determination) is a statistical measure in a regression model that determines the proportion of variance in the dependent variable that can be explained by the independent variable Independent Variable An independent variable is an input, assumption, or driver that is changed in order to assess its impact on Analysis: The correlation is positive, and it appears there is some relationship between height and weight. As the height increases, the weight of the person also appears to be increased.

To interpret its value, see which of the following values your correlation r is closest to: Exactly –1.
The only requirements are that the data is normally distributed (or rather, that the residuals are), and that there is no correlation between the independent variables

Coefficient of correlation (or R value) is reported in the SUMMARY table – which is part of the SPSS regression output. Alternatively, you can also divide SSTR by SST to compute the R square value. SSTR and SST are reported in the ANOVA table which is part of the SPSS regression output.
The correlation coefficient should always be in the range of -1 to 1.

Upon request, SPSS will give you two transformations of the squared multiple correlation coefficients. One is tolerance, which is simply 1 minus that R2. The second is VIF, the variance inflation factor, which is simply the reciprocal of the tolerance. Very low values of tolerance (.1 or less) indicate a problem. I've got a data frame with a whole slew of variables, and what I'd like to do is create a table of the correlations among a subset of these, basically the equivalent of "pwcorr" in Stata, or "correlations" in SPSS. The one key to this is that not only do I want the r, but I also want the significance associated with that value. Any ideas?
R is the correlation between the regression predicted values and the actual values. For simple regression, R is equal to the correlation between the predictor and dependent variable.

Interpreting SPSS Correlation Output Correlations estimate the strength of the linear relationship between two (and only two) variables. Correlation coefficients range from -1.0 (a perfect negative correlation) to positive 1.0 (a perfect positive correlation). The closer correlation coefficients get to -1.0 or 1.0, the stronger the correlation.
However, the partial correlation option in SPSS is defaulted to performing a Pearson’s partial correlation which assumes normality of the two variables of interest. SPSS Tests Correlation, Non Parametric, SPSS Tutorials How to test Spearman Rank Correlation Coefficient Using SPSS | Spearman Rank Correlation Test is part of the non-parametric statistics. As it is known that the non-parametric statistic does not require the terms as contained in parametric statistics, such data must be normally distributed and have the same variant Une erreur courante est de croire qu'un coefficient de corrélation élevé induit une relation de causalité entre les deux phénomènes mesurés. En réalité, les deux phénomènes peuvent être corrélés à un même phénomène-source : une troisième variable non mesurée, et dont dépendent les deux autres.
